He managed the product definition, feature/function, architecture, and product design processes. He oversaw engineering development activities through to manufacturing processes to field-testing, product refinement, and initial general release. Project development elements included mechanical, electrical and software engineering disciplines. He also had fiscal responsibility for managing project budgets, and meeting targeted product cost goals.
Mr. Smith has manufacturing operations expertise including manufacturing planning, tooling requirements and selection, shop-floor activities, staffing and quality control. In addition, Mr. Smith has managed field and customer support operations and has been a general contractor on numerous residential, commercial remodeling and new construction projects in Oregon, California, and Arizona. Mr. Smith was responsible for Product Development & Mfg Operations for a start-up company, which marketed and manufactured a robotics-based machine for institutional and retail applications. The machines offered automated garment control, management, and distribution system for hotels, hospitals, and in the future, dry-cleaners. Mr. Smith was responsible for propelling this product and the associated technologies from the beta form to a production model.
Specific product development responsibilities included: assessment of the existing software, mechanical & electrical designs, product upgrade and/or redesign development, management of material and component specification; vendor selection; engineering management (software, electrical and mechanical), product testing and performance enhancement, and procurement of all materials & components.
Specific management responsibilities included over-sight of manufacturing processes, training in use of all equipment and tools used in the manufacturing and installation of the product, project management and direct over-sight of customer installations & on-site customer training and technical support functions.
During 1994 to 1996, Mr. Smith was Project Manager for Inn Time Service LLC
A Start-up Company, based in San Carlos, CA, that was selling a revolutionary automated inventory control system to hotels.
